Keeping the Kids Entertained

We all know that if you are a kid, a wedding is not always your idea of fun. The day can seem long and sometimes kids needs to get some of their energy out, but it needs to be done in a somewhat tame way. A kids’ table is a great solution to keeping those kids busy doing “kid” things while mom and dad can sneak in a quick twirl on the dance floor.

First thing first, pick up a plastic tablecloth at your local dollar or party store. There is nothing worse than kids getting crayon or marker on the lovely rented linens. A plastic tablecloth means easy clean up, but also not having to reimburse the linen company for a ruined linen. Plastic tablecloths come in a rainbow of colors, so you should be able to find one that matches your wedding.

Next step is to pick non-messy arts and crafts for the table. Don’t buy items that require glue or anything sticky and definitely never get Play-Doh. Sticky things easily make their way onto the chairs and carpet of your venue, so pick basic items from your dollar store. Coloring books, crayons, and activity books are always a big hit with the kids. Consider other items like small puzzles, fun hats, little toy cars, and snacks to keep the kids occupied. These wedding placemats from Oriental Trading are perfect to help entertain the little ones at the kid’s table. If the kids aren’t too young, Legos can keep the kids busy for hours.

If you’re interested in decorating the kid’s table with a creative centerpiece, you can easily put together something with candy. Some large lollipops in an inexpensive vase or container can give the table a fun look.

If the budget allows, consider hiring a babysitter for the evening to monitor the kids at the table and allow all of your guests to enjoy the festivities.
